Y2mate YouTube to MP3
Audio only, without the extra weight
A video file carries a picture you don’t need when you only want to listen. This YouTube to MP3 page opens on the Audio tab, so after you paste a link you see the audio tracks first, each showing its bitrate and file size.
One minute of audio at 128 kbps is roughly 1 MB, around an eighth of the same minute as 720p video. That makes MP3 the sensible choice for playlists on your phone, long talks on a commute or language lessons offline. YTMP3 is simply a shorter name for the same thing.
Because the file is the original audio track rather than a re-encoded copy, there is no conversion step to wait for. Tap the card and the sound comes straight from YouTube’s servers to your device, ready to play offline on a plane, in the car or anywhere your connection drops out.
Step by step
How to turn a YouTube video into MP3
-
Step 1: Copy the video link
From the YouTube app: Share › Copy link. From a browser: the address at the top of the window. Songs, podcasts and Shorts are all fine.
-
Step 2: Paste it here
Y2mate recognises the link straight away and opens the Audio tab with the tracks that are available.
-
Step 3: Tap MP3 and save
The audio opens in a new tab. Keep it on your phone or computer and open it in your usual music player.

Audio files are tiny next to video. The bars below show one minute of each, on the same scale, so you can see how much space you save.
| Format | Best for | Size per minute |
|---|---|---|
| MP3 128 kbps Songs, shows and everyday listening | Songs, shows and everyday listening | ≈ 1 MB |
| MP3 48 kbps Speech, audiobooks and saving data, when offered | Speech, audiobooks and saving data, when offered | ≈ 0.35 MB |

| 720p video For comparison: an HD MP4 with picture | For comparison: an HD MP4 with picture | ≈ 8 MB |
Y2mate only lists the bitrates YouTube actually provides for each video. Most uploads have a 128 kbps track, and some also include a lighter one.
Tips
Tips for audio downloads
-
Pick the top bitrate for music
The highest bitrate listed is the one marked Best. For songs and DJ sets, that is the one to take.
-
Talks can go lighter
If a smaller track is offered, it is plenty for speech and keeps long recordings compact.
-
Rename after saving
Give the file a clear name once it is saved, so it is easy to find in your music library later.
-
Listening on a phone
Android music apps usually find new tracks in the Downloads folder by themselves. On iPhone, the track lives in the Files app and plays with a tap.
-
Want the picture after all?
Switch to the Video tab, or use the dedicated page to compare every MP4 resolution.

FAQ
YouTube to MP3 questions
Does the MP3 download cost anything?
No. It is free to use, there is nothing to sign up for, and you can save as many audio files as you like.
Is the file a real MP3?
The audio option is labelled MP3 because that is the name most people know. The file itself is YouTube’s original AAC audio track, often saved as .m4a, so nothing is re-encoded and it plays in every common music app on phones and computers.
What bitrate will I get?
The bitrate YouTube has for that video; for most uploads that means 128 kbps. Y2mate never lists bitrates that aren’t really available, so what you see is what you get.
Does it work for music videos and Shorts?
Yes. Paste any YouTube video or Shorts link. On the other pages, switch to the Audio tab to see the MP3 options.
How big is an MP3 from YouTube?
About 1 MB per minute at 128 kbps, so a four-minute song is around 4 MB and an hour-long podcast is roughly 55 MB.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes. Open Y2mate in Safari, paste the link and tap the MP3 card. If the audio starts playing, tap Share and choose Save to Files to keep it.
Will it sound the same as on YouTube?
You get the same AAC audio track YouTube provides for that video, with no re-encoding on the way. The YouTube app sometimes streams a different audio format, so playback there can differ slightly.
Is YTMP3 the same thing?
Yes. People type YTMP3 as a quick way of saying YouTube to MP3, and that is what this page does: paste a YouTube link and keep the audio track.
Got a link ready?
Paste it in the box at the top and your download options appear right below it.
